Training the Peruvian
Horse is a very specialized acquired skill. It is the national horse in
Peru and highly prized. The majority of trainers in the United States come
from Peru. We have two Peruvian trainers on staff, Henry and Luis Vargas.
Henry and Luis were
trained by their father, Master Chalan Alberto Vargas, who still lives and
works in Peru for one of the more well known ranches. Alberto started them
both at an early age educating then in the traditional methods of training.
Their methods enhance the reach and drive of the rear legs under the horse
while promoting the extension of the front legs. This produces the smooth
ground covering gait prized within the breed.
Henry has been training
Peruvian Horses in the United States for 7 years. He has extensive
experience at both the regional and national shows. The Peruvian horses he
shows consistently place well.

Henry has a high level
of patience and kindness with the horses and will not progress to the next
level of training unless the horse is ready. He feels a horse must first
learn to walk.
Luis Vargas, Henry’s
brother, joined us in July of 2008. He worked under his father’s supervision
on several of the more renowned ranches in Peru. The horses he trains
continually place in the ribbons at both the regional and nations shows. He
brings a high level of expertise and confidence to our training program.
